Sometimes great tasting cheese tastes even better when you learn the details behind its producer. Such is the case with this CuratedCravings™ Spotlight Cheese: Milton Creamery Morning Harvest.  Milton Creamery is owned by the Musser family and located amid the rolling hills, lush woodlands, and fertile soil of Southern Iowa. We discovered this producer when we tasted their Morning Harvest at a cheese show. It’s usually hard to tell at these shows whether or not a particular cheese will stand out with the other offerings in our case—but from the first bite, Morning Harvest was a “Wow” and we kept coming back for more! Like all truly great cheeses, Morning Harvest begins with exceptional milk. It’s sourced only from small dairy farms (no more than 120 milking cows), all located within a 30-mile radius of the Creamery. Tapping into their Cheddar expertise—while still allowing their Swiss and German roots to shine—the Mussers and their team add proprietary cultures to that fresh milk, yielding Cheddar-style curds. Those curds are then pressed into blocks and carefully aged for at least seven months.  This artisanal process yields a firm, yet sliceable Cheese with a pleasant, fruity aroma and creamy texture. The first bite delivers notes of buttered popcorn with an unexpected, subtle sweetness that gently lingers, begging to be matched with a cold Belgian ale or fruit-forward red wine.
